Feature Extraction of English Books on Environmentology Using Data Mining | Chapter 1 | Current Approaches in Science and Technology Research Vol. 14

To solve environmental challenges, a system known as “environmentology” has lately been attempted. It is deemed necessary to read resources in English in order to study environmentology. Several English works on environmental issues are examined and contrasted to journalism in terms of metrical linguistics in this paper. In short, the frequency properties of character- and word-appearance are investigated using a C++ software. These features are approximated using an exponential function. In addition, the ratio of Japanese junior high school necessary vocabulary and American basic vocabulary is calculated to define the difficulty level and K-characteristic of each work. As a result, it is obvious that English resources for environmentology have a similar tendency in terms of character-appearance to literary literature. Furthermore, environmental materials have high K-characteristic values, and some books are more challenging than TIME magazine.
